ICT is often overlooked as a major source of CO2 emissions.  However, its share of greenhouse emissions can be significant.  According to data from Australian Computer Society:

• ICT accounts for 1.52% of the total CO2 emissions in Australia;
• these emissions are larger than those of civil aviation - 0.97% and cement manufacturing - 1.0%;
• majority of ICT emissions come from personal workstations;
